Why multilingual outpatient documentation needs native ASR, not translation
Patient speaks Telugu, doctor types English. Translation by hand drains attention from clinical reasoning.
Generic ASR engines built on North American data fall apart on code-switching — the moment a patient says "sir, three days nundi" the transcript turns to nonsense.
Round-tripping through Google Translate adds latency, loses medical idiom, and makes audit trails harder to defend under DPDP Act 2023.
How TaloeMed handles Telugu-English, Hindi-English, and Tamil-English code-switching
- 1
ASR layer recognises code-switching natively
Two ASR engines run on every recording. They are tuned for Indian medical speech with mid-sentence language switches. There is no separate translation pass — the transcript is built directly from the multilingual audio.
- 2
SOAP generation produces English notes by default
Whatever language the patient speaks, the SOAP note is written in clinically standard English so it can be exported, audited, and shared without re-translation.
- 3
12 quality gates run before the doctor signs off
TrustGate™ runs all 12 quality gates including HalluciGuard™ transcript-to-note validation, so a phrase the patient never said cannot show up in the note. The doctor always has the final say.

Frequently asked
Does TaloeMed transcribe Telugu-English code-mixed speech?
Yes. Telugu-English code-mixing is the engine's primary tuning target, tuned for Indian outpatient speech patterns. The ASR layer handles mid-sentence language switches without falling back to a separate translation pass — the transcript is built directly from the multilingual audio.
Will the SOAP note come out in the patient's language or in English?
By default, the SOAP note is written in clinically standard English so it can be exported to PDF or DOCX, audited, and shared with referring colleagues without re-translation.
What about Hindi-English in North India and Tamil-English in Chennai?
Both are supported with native code-switching at the ASR layer. The same architecture handles Telugu-English in Hyderabad. We currently support 10 Indic languages: Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Odia.
How does TaloeMed handle medical jargon mixed across languages?
Indian outpatient speech routinely mixes English medical terms ("three days fever", "chest pain hai") with regional grammar. The ASR is tuned to keep clinical terms in English while transcribing the surrounding Telugu/Hindi/Tamil naturally. TrustGate™'s HalluciGuard gate then validates the SOAP note against the transcript so nothing the patient never said reaches the chart.
